Contents, sweeteners & aspartame

What is the deal with aspartame?

  • Following an extensive study, the European Food Safety Authority has approved aspartame.
  • Calorie-free
  • Appreciated by diabetics since it does not affect blood sugar.
  • good option for those who wish to lose weight and are working to introduce a lasting change into their diet and lifestyle.
  • The body does not differentiate but breaks down the amino acids in the aspartame the same way as in, for example, the chicken you eat.

Are there cases where you should avoid aspartame?

The only exception is individuals born with the metabolic disorder phenylketonuria (PKU), which means they are unable to break down (metabolise) phenylalanine. They should avoid aspartame.

We have chosen to include only a very small amount of sweetener in ProPud.

Are light products sweetened with aspartame dangerous?

Regardless of what negative statements people may make about aspartame, their claims have no substance. What matters is what science says.

Increased appetite and sugar cravings when eating products with aspartame?

No, scientific studies show that there is nothing to suggest that sweet taste, i.e. neither sugar nor sweeteners, make you hungry or increase your appetite.

Composition of aspartame?

Aspartame is composed of two amino acids, aspartic acid and phenylalanine, both of which are important building blocks for many proteins found naturally in protein rich foods like eggs, meat, and nuts. When aspartame is metabolised in the body, it is converted to aspartic acid, phenylalanine, and methanol. The amount of these substances is much less than what you get with many other foods, such as milk, meat, and dried beans.

How are your products sweetened?

With low-calorie sweeteners (Steviol glycoside from Stevia, Aspartame and Acesulfame K) which are approx. 200 times (steviol glycoside up to 300 times) as sweet as regular sugar, that is why you only need to use a minimum amount.

Steviol glycoside from Stevia, Aspartame and Acesulfame K is used in several foods and is found in many low-calorie/calorie-free products around the world.
